About us...
Our Story
In 2019, three Hertfordshire nurseries - Heath Lane, Oxhey and Muriel Green Nursery schools- were worried about the uncertainty of Maintained Nursery School funding and its impact. The heads needed a way to sustain their finances, while giving children the best education. So, we decided to federate. We overhauled our resourcing, introduced a skills-based curriculum, and improved staff wellbeing. Now, all our nurseries stay within budget, our teachers have opportunities to grow, and our children learn the skills they need to thrive.
Through consultation and training, we share the strategy behind our success with other settings. And we invite schools to join Roots, so they get the structure and vision needed to give children the start they deserve. Whatever your budget and challenges, we can transform your setting.
Our Vision
Our vision is for all schools to offer an exceptional early years education.

We want this education to be well rounded - developing academic, social, emotional, creative and physical skills. Every child should feel safe and happy in their nursery, and develop a love of learning that lasts beyond their school years.
By working together, schools can share their expertise and resources, increase opportunities and capacity for practitioners, and best serve their communities.
Our Why
Why do we care so much about early years?
Well, we want everyone to lead happy, healthy and productive lives. Evidence shows that the first five years of life have a bigger impact on future outcomes than any other time. Good development in early years is linked to better educational outcomes, careers, health and housing.
While home life during early years is critical, early years setting make a difference too, which is why every under five in our care receives exceptional care and education.
